Coastal Explorer is fully compatible with Windows Vista® after performing the following steps:

Note: In the upcoming 2.0 beta and release versions, these steps will not be necessary as it is completely compatible with Microsoft Vista®.

  1. Download , unzip, then run our CEVista compatibility tool. This tool makes a couple of changes to the default folder permissions set by Vista. These changes will not affect other software or impair the security of your system, since they are only performed on folders create by Coastal Explorer.
  2. Make sure your USB devices have Vista compatible drivers.  This isn’t a problem with our software but, rather, a problem that affects your instruments ability to communicate with any software it can work with it.

Driver Notes

  • For some USB devices, you may need to download drivers written specifically for Vista
  • If you are running the 64-bit version of Vista, you will definitely need special 64-bit drivers.
  • When installing drivers under Vista, be sure to tell it to trust the unsigned driver. There has been some confusion on this as some misinformed articles on the internet state that drivers won't install at all unless they are signed. This is not true, but you must allow it to install it if it's not signed.
